When you use a hosted platform, you follow the rules. You don't make up what you think should be the rules. Handles are unique. You cannot dupe them. Therefore they function as an ID without being an ID. So use what works, as presented by Shopify, or scratch your head for endless hours wondering why random stuff does not work.
